I'm Ashleigh, a Scottish elopement wedding planner & photographer based in Scotland. My wife Meghan (on the left below) and I eloped in Scotland in 2021 and now want to help other couples plan an elopement experience which is filled with magical moments, snow topped mountains, deep dark forests and a calm relaxed atmosphere.

I can help you plan an all-inclusive, low cost elopement or small wedding right here in Scotland as well as capturing your day. I want to show couples you really can plan an elopement which is stress-free with a heart felt ceremony representing your beliefs and personalities, beautiful photography telling the story of your day, a plan with suggestions of suppliers for your day and a timeline to show you how we can make it all happen.

On our day, we hired a self catering accommodation, had a relaxed morning having our hair and make up done whilst listening to our favourite music. Our ceremony took place outdoors facing hills and a loch which suited us both as we love being out in nature. We had a photographer capturing each special moment, had lots of small memories handing up inside of our life together and ended our day with a small buffet.

Our humanist celebrant provided a beautifully personal ceremony which told the story of how we both met. We had a meeting with our celebrant before hand to ensure we clicked and it was all such an easy process and would highly recommend using a humanist celebrant on your day.

We look back on our day knowing we had the most personal day to us which I feel larger weddings often lack. Scotland provides several different options for couples to elope to so there are so many reasons why you should consider Scotland as an elopement location.

The History of Eloping in Scotland

Eloping in Scotland has a long and romantic legacy.

In the 18th century, couples would cross the border into Scotland to marry under more relaxed laws, free from parental consent and rigid formalities. Scotland became a place where love could move quickly — and boldly.

The most famous destination was Gretna Green, where couples were traditionally married by the village blacksmith. The symbolic “anvil wedding” became a powerful image of forging a life together — simple, heartfelt, and intentional.

While marriage laws are now more formal, Scotland remains one of the most unique places in the world to elope. Outdoor ceremonies are legally recognised, and humanist weddings are fully legal — allowing couples to marry on mountainsides, beside lochs, or along wild coastlines.

Today, eloping here is no longer about running away.
It’s about choosing something deeply personal.

At The Scottish Elopement Service, we honour that legacy. We combine Scotland’s rich romantic history with thoughtful modern planning — helping couples create intentional, intimate ceremonies rooted in freedom, landscape, and love.

Because in Scotland, love stories have always belonged to the couple — and they still do.

My philosophy is simple: plan with care, embrace the landscape, and focus on what matters most — your connection. I work with a select number of couples each year to ensure that every elopement feels intentional, effortless, and unforgettable.
